On March 3, 2021, the Occupational Hygiene Laboratories Committee meeting was held with a single agenda item, led by Committee Chair Erkan KARAHASANOĞLU. The meeting evaluated the upcoming online meeting to be organized by the Ministry of Family, Labor, and Social Services, General Directorate of Occupational Health, in March. Based on the discussions and evaluations made by the committee members:
The "Regulation on Laboratories Conducting Measurement, Testing, and Analysis in Occupational Hygiene," published in August 2013, came into force 180 days after its publication, and there has been a need for its development shortly thereafter.
The revised "Regulation on Occupational Hygiene Measurement, Testing, and Analysis Laboratories" was published in January 2017, highlighting the existence of aspects that require improvement and renewal. As a result of the efforts, a workshop result report was prepared in April 2018 with the participation and joint decision of all authorized laboratories at the ISGUM headquarters.
It was noted that, as of March 1, 2021, the invitation email for the meeting sent by ISGUM to authorized laboratories indicated that the draft version of the regulation, which was published in 2013, completely renewed in 2017, and has been expected to be improved and renewed for over three years, was not available to the association.
Considering the challenges that can arise during the implementation of regulations published without opening them for consultation with civil society organizations and sector stakeholders, it is expected that the final draft of the regulation will be made available for review.
Despite having a wealth of information and resources obtained through surveys, workshops, and meetings conducted by ISGUM with authorized laboratories during the process, the desire to plan another consultation meeting and to reassess opinions regarding the adequacy of the legal framework was evaluated.
